At a working session with the municipal Election Committee, the delegation heard reports on the implementation of election-related tasks. Accordingly, Hue has established four constituencies for National Assembly deputies, with nine deputies to be elected; 14 constituencies for the municipal People’s Council, with 53 deputies; and 228 constituencies for People’s Councils at the commune and ward levels, with 804 deputies. Across the city’s 40 communes and wards, 768 polling stations are expected to be set up, including 11 separate polling stations for units of the people’s armed forces and universities. Polling stations have been arranged in convenient and accessible locations, ensuring security, order and favourable conditions for voters on election day.
As of 5pm on January 27, Hue had received eight candidate dossiers for the 16th National Assembly, 48 for the municipal People’s Council, and 1,271 for People’s Councils at the commune and ward levels. No self-nominated candidates have been recorded. A total of 745 dossiers were submitted online via the National Election Council’s portal. The first round of candidate consultation was conducted seriously and in strict accordance with procedures, ensuring appropriate numbers, structures and composition as prescribed.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and head of the municipal Election Committee Nguyen Khac Toan noted that the locality has faced certain difficulties, including population fluctuations affecting voter list management and heavy workloads for officials who are concurrently handling election-related duties. He affirmed that the city would promptly address these challenges and fully absorb guidance to ensure the elections are conducted lawfully, democratically and safely.
The municipal Election Committee proposed that competent authorities soon issue staffing frameworks for the commune level to reduce concurrent assignments and enhance grassroots governance capacity. It also recommended that the National Election Council provide specialised equipment, allocate funding promptly, promptly address difficulties arising during implementation, and step up training for grassroots officials to meet practical requirements. Wrapping up the inspection, General Quang praised the early achievements of Hue’s election committees, noting that preparations have been thorough, serious, and in line with the law. He emphasised the importance of staying proactive in monitoring developments, quickly addressing disputes and complaints, and keeping information systems secure to safeguard public security and order throughout the election process.
On the same day, the delegation paid a visit to former Politburo member and former head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Ideology and Culture (now Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation) Nguyen Khoa Diem, and presented Lunar New Year gifts to 100 policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged households in Hung Loc commune of Hue.
