More than a month since Quang Ninh was hit by Typhoon Yagi, the province has implemented extensive work to deal with the consequences. According to local reports, some heavily damaged sectors, especially aquaculture, have resumed production.
At present, households in Van Don District have restored about 1,000 hectares of oyster farming buoys. For fish farming, 2,650 fish cages have been restored, reaching 50% of pre-typhoon levels.
Director of the Fisheries Department Tran Dinh Luan stated that thousands of hectares of sea surface area have now been allocated to aquaculture cooperatives in Quang Ninh.
Regarding breeding stock, the Fisheries Department has contacted shrimp, oyster, and seaweed breeding facilities to ensure supply for residents to begin production immediately.
Additionally, the department is focusing on working with local authorities to redesign suitable areas for marine aquaculture development while also restructuring species and seasonal planning to minimise potential damage from future typhoons.
The Fisheries Department is also working toward reorganising residents' production into cooperatives for large-scale production, serving the domestic market and tourists to Quang Ninh and expanding into export markets.
Luan emphasised that businesses and industry associations will continue to support residents with breeding stock, feed and supplies.
The Fisheries Department is confident that the aquaculture sector will soon recover production to ensure supply for domestic and export markets in the coming period.
