Samsung recalls over 8,000 Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in Vietnam

NDO—Samsung has recalled over 8,000 units of its faulty Galaxy Note 7 smartphone out of more than 12,600 units sold on the Vietnamese market, according to the Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA).

The Galaxy Note 7 was touted as the best phone Samsung had ever built when the product was launched in August.

This is part of a global recall by the world’s largest phone maker after complaints that some of its devices were exploding.

Samsung has also discontinued manufacturing the handset, which the company had touted as the best phone it had ever built when the product was launched in August.

The VCA appealed to consumers who had bought the Galaxy Note 7 to quickly return their devices to Samsung for their benefit, safety and social responsibility.

In a related development, Vietnam Airlines has announced it will decline carrying the device in any form, including in person, in hand luggage and checked baggage, on all of its flights, following a similar ban by airlines throughout the world.

Earlier the national flagship carrier prohibited passengers from placing the Galaxy Note 7 in their checked baggage and stopped offering in-flight phone charging services for the handset.
