Scholarships bring hope to children of organ donor families

Four disadvantaged children in Ha Noi, whose relatives made humanitarian organ donations, were awarded scholarships to support their living and studies at a recent handover ceremony at Saint Paul General Hospital.

Speaking at the ceremony on January 15, Associate Professor Dr Dong Van He, Director of the National Coordinating Centre for Human Organ Transplantation and Deputy Director of Viet Duc Hospital, reported that 2025 was a “record-breaking” year with 66 cases of organ and tissue donations from brain-dead patients.

He commended the children whose relatives had participated in organ and tissue donation, describing them as those who carry a special legacy left by their loved ones — that of compassion.

The scholarships, launched in late August 2025 by Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper and the Khoi Su Tu Tam (Compassionate Initiatives) Foundation, a member of Kim Oanh Group, provide each beneficiary with 12 million VND annually. The funds are disbursed quarterly, ensuring steady support throughout their education until they reach adulthood at 18.

Beyond financial assistance, the children are also accompanied on their personal journeys, receiving care and guidance to help them build resilience and confidence. The programme seeks to nurture not only their studies but also their inner strength, enabling them to stand firmly on their own feet as they shape their futures.

To date, 16 children across provinces and cities nationwide have benefited from this scheme.
