Seminar discusses how digital transformation in banking and financial services benefits farmers

The event, jointly held by the Vietnam Farmers' Union in coordination with the State Bank of Vietnam, and the ‘Nong Thon Ngay Nay (Countryside Today) Newspaper, was attended by the 100 most outstanding farmers and 63 typical agricultural cooperatives in Vietnam, in 2023.

Participants at the workshop focussed their discussions on two major topics, including encouraging achievements for the digital transformation in the finance and banking sector, and ways to solve problems facing the process in order to benefit farmers.

In his opening remark, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association Luong Quoc Doan stressed that digital transformation in agriculture is one of the priority areas in digital transformation, in which farmers are placed at the centre.

Similarly, in the banking industry, customers as the centre of digital transformation and are considered as a measurement of the process.

For his part, the Director General of the Payment Department under the State Bank of Vietnam Pham Anh Tuan, noted that a comprehensive financial strategy has been put forward, with a focus on applying digital technology to promote innovations among farmers, and those in remote areas, islands, and low-income groups.

He emphasised that the legal corridor and infrastructure for digital transformation in the banking industry have been gradually improved to offer the best services to farmers.
