According to the CAAV, if typhoon Ragasa makes landfall in Viet Nam, six airports in the northern region will be affected by strong winds — the Noi Bai, Van Don, Cat Bi international airports; and the Tho Xuan, Vinh and Dong Hoi airports.
CAAV has required the Airports Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV) and Van Don International Airport to take the lead and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to inspect airport infrastructure and communication systems to promptly detect and address any damage to ensure the safety of facilities, stations, and flight operations at airports.
Airports have been required to implement storm and flood prevention measures, including drainage prevention, protection of infrastructure, vehicles and equipment in order to minimise damage and quickly stabilise operations to meet passenger needs.
The CAAV also requested investors to direct contractors to immediately implement storm-response measures; identify technical stop points to suspend construction depending on storm developments; prepare conditions for timely repairs of facilities to ensure safety and minimise losses caused by the typhoon; maintain round-the-clock duty teams; and proactively update meteorological information for use in proposing safe and appropriate operational plans.
The Viet Nam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has instructed its aviation meteorology units to improve the quality of meteorological information; continuously monitor weather situation in their areas of responsibility; update forecasts and warnings; and provide complete and timely observation data and forecasts to users.
Airlines have been urged to closely monitor developments of Typhoon Ragasa, to adjust flight schedules or reschedule operations as appropriate, ensuring flight safety. They are to fully update meteorological information from relevant aviation weather services, and, based on actual conditions, to implement necessary response actions to minimise operational impacts, ensure safe flight operations, and protect staff, passengers and assets from natural disasters.
Facing the complex developments of Typhoon Ragasa (typhoon No. 9), Viet Nam Airlines has continued to adjust its flight schedules to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
In addition, Viet Nam Airlines will cancel flights between Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong (China); and between Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Guangzhou (China) on September 23–24.
Flights to and from Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong) on September 24 will be rescheduled to depart or arrive before 11:00. At the same time, a number of other domestic and international flights may also be affected due to knock-on impacts from the typhoon.
Viet Nam Airlines Group has advised passengers to keep their seatbelts fastened throughout flights, especially in complex weather conditions. Keeping seatbelts secured even when the seatbelt sign is switched off is an important measure to reduce risks in the event of turbulence.
