Over 6,500 social welfare bags given to workers in Soc Trang

The Soc Trang Provincial Labour Confederation held a ceremony to give more than 6,500 “social welfare bags” to COVID-19 pandemic-hit trade union members and workers, at An Nghiep Industrial Park, on November 8.

Each gift bag is worth more than VND 400,000, paid for by the support capital of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and Trade Union of Soc Trang province.

Chairman of the Soc Trang Provincial Labour Confederation Nguyen Thanhh Son said that from the end of April until now, among trade union members, officials and employees of Soc Trang province, including 132 workers infected with COVID-19 (F0), more than 1,000 F1; and more than 15,000 people have seen reduced hours or have had to stop working due to COVID-19.

In order to promptly share the difficulties of workers, the Provincial Trade Union has mobilised 176 tonnes of rice, nearly 200 tonnes of agricultural products of all kinds, and nearly 12,000 gifts with a total value of more than VND9 billion, to support workers so that they can safely deal with COVID-19.

In addition, more than 4,000 workers in Soc Trang province are being supported by government policies with more than VND 5 billion. There are 2,766 workers being paid from unemployment insurance funds.
