Constructing transport infrastructure has created new development space, attracting investment in industry, urban areas, and services to promote socio-economic development.
In the past three years, Thai Nguyen Province has focused resources and urgently implemented key transport projects in the southern region.
Notably, the road connecting Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang-Vinh Phuc provinces (also connecting with the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen Expressway) is over 40 km long, with a total investment of over VND 4,200 billion. Investment in completing the Ring Road 5 of the Hanoi Capital Region through Phu Binh District connecting with Bac Giang Province and the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen Expressway, has an investment of nearly 700 billion VND.
According to the Head of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works of Thai Nguyen Province, Bui Tien Chinh, the construction units have completed two traffic projects of regional and provincial connectivity and put them into use from the beginning of the second quarter of 2025, 3-6 months ahead of schedule. The early completion of the projects will create new space for the province to attract investment, accelerate the construction progress, and exploit infrastructure projects of industrial parks, clusters, urban areas, and services in the region.
The province is also actively coordinating with the Ministry of Transport to speed up the progress of the Ho Chi Minh road connecting Thai Nguyen-Tuyen Quang, Cho Chu Town-Trung Son intersection, to put it into use this year. At the same time, deploying phase II of the Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang-Vinh Phuc connecting road to the border of Tuyen Quang Province.
Thai Nguyen also focuses resources on building many traffic works connecting industrial parks, roads, and localities in the province. Typical examples include the northeastern belt road of Thai Nguyen City, belt road 1 of Thai Nguyen Province, the route connecting Provincial Road 261 with Provincial Road 266, upgrading the section from Km31 of National Highway 3 to the special relic ATK Dinh Hoa.
Up to now, the route connecting Provincial Road 261 with Provincial Road 266 has been completed, helping to connect industrial parks in the area, facilitating the travel and transport of goods.
In the Thai Nguyen City Dynamic Urban Development Project, from the end of 2023, the province has put into use the belt road from the north-south intersection - Huong Thuong cable-stayed bridge connecting to Chua Hang round island, reducing traffic pressure on the inner city, opening up a large space for the development of Thai Nguyen city to the northeast.
Chairman of Thai Nguyen City People's Committee Nguyen Linh said, "When completed, this belt road will create a large space on both sides of the road for urban and service development, creating resources for investment in other areas of the city". The province also has a policy of investing in a road around Nui Coc Lake, about 40 km long, to exploit tourism potential.
In the 2021-2024 period, Thai Nguyen Province will invest in 11 transport infrastructure projects with a total capital of nearly 6,800 billion VND, of which the routes with regional connectivity and large spillover will be put into use from the second quarter of 2025, the remaining routes are being urgently deployed. That shows that, despite the limited budget, the provincial leaders have made great determination to take advantage of opportunities, create space and new development space for the acceleration and breakthrough period of the locality in the coming years.

Along with investing in the transportation system, Thai Nguyen also focuses on developing power infrastructure to provide sufficient, stable and safe electricity for production and business. Following the transformer stations invested in previous years, the province has deployed construction over the past two years in Yen Binh, Song Cong I, Song Cong II and Diem Thuy Industrial Parks.
Notably, the units will complete the Phu Binh 2 220 kV Transformer Station Project and the Phu Binh 2 220 kV line branching from Thai Nguyen to Bac Giang, the 110 kV lines synchronised with the Phu Binh 2 220 kV Transformer Station are key projects that will be completed by the end of March 2025 to meet the demand for electricity for economic and social development and production in industrial parks and clusters in the coming years.
Thanks to convenient transportation, in recent years, Thai Nguyen Province has developed six industrial parks with an area of over 1,600 hectares, most of which have been filled, attracting 318 investment projects, including 178 FDI projects, with a capital of nearly 11 billion USD, creating jobs for more than 100,000 workers, creating an export value of 26-27 billion USD/year. In 2023, Thai Nguyen has had almost no industrial land left to attract investment. By proactively implementing the provincial planning and urgently building many spillover traffic projects, the province has created new development space to attract investment.
Director of Thai Nguyen Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Ba Chinh said that in 2023 and 2024, the province has made efforts to complete about 200 hectares of industrial land to attract secondary investors. Along with the operation of the Ring Road 5 of the Hanoi Capital Region, investors have completed two industrial clusters Hanh Phuc-Xuan Phuong and Bao Ly-Xuan Phuong with an infrastructure investment capital of more than 1,000 billion VND, an area of more than 100 hectares, eligible to hand over land to secondary investors to build production plants.
In addition, Glory Golf Course (Thanh Cong Commune, Pho Yen City) with an investment of nearly 400 billion VND, located right next to the Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang-Vinh Phuc connecting road will be put into use in the first phase from April 2025, contributing to promoting tourism and service development.
Based on the new development space, Thai Nguyen is urgently implementing five new industrial parks with a total area of over 2,600 hectares, nearly twice the area of existing industrial parks.
Along the two routes of the 5th ring road of the Hanoi capital region, the connecting road of Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang-Vinh Phuc region, Thai Nguyen Province has just decided to establish many new industrial clusters with an area of nearly 100 hectares each, such as Ha Chau 1, Ha Chau 2, Tan Duc, Luong Phu-Tan Duc, Quan Chu and Cat Ne-Ky Phu.
Thus, with the strategy of investing in transport infrastructure ahead, Thai Nguyen has attracted many investors in infrastructure of industrial parks and clusters, creating momentum to become one of the modern industrial centers of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region and the Hanoi Capital Region by 2030.
Vice Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh said, "Creating new development space to attract investment in industrial, urban and service development is a very important basis for Thai Nguyen Province to enter a period of double-digit GRDP growth, in which by 2025 it will grow by 10.5% and attract 100,000 billion VND of total social investment capital".
To effectively promote the connecting routes, regional connections, strengthen cooperation, and promote economic development of localities, Vinh Phuc Province needs to invest in the connecting section with the Thai Nguyen-Bac Giang-Vinh Phuc connecting road. Bac Giang Province needs to invest in the next section of the Hanoi Capital Region Ring Road 5 to connect with Thai Nguyen Province.
