Through the new service, Korean visitors and residents in Viet Nam can use mobile banking apps and e-wallets within the GLN International network to scan VIETQRGlobal codes and make payments at hundreds of thousands of merchant locations across the country.
Transactions are processed in real time, matching the speed and security of domestic payments in Korea.
Notably, the service enables direct settlement between the Korean won (KRW) and the Vietnamese dong (VND) through the clearing infrastructure of Hana Bank and BIDV.
The rollout comes as Korea has long been one of Viet Nam’s largest source markets for international tourism.
Accepting QR code payments enables businesses to better serve Korean visitors, streamlining transactions and increasing revenue without additional infrastructure investment.
Speaking at the launch, Pham Anh Tuan, Director of the Payment Department at the State Bank of Viet Nam, said the cross-border QR payment link is expected to significantly simplify local-currency payments, benefiting Korean visitors to Viet Nam and Vietnamese travellers to Korea alike.
In 2025, Viet Nam welcomed more than 21.2 million international visitors, with Korea ranking as the second-largest source market, contributing around 4.3 million arrivals.
The number of Vietnamese travellers to Korea also grew steadily, reaching approximately 550,000 in 2025, up 9% from the previous year.
Nguyen Quang Minh, Chief Executive Officer of NAPAS, said the corporation will continue extending its QR payment network to additional countries, with the aim of building a modern, secure, and seamless cross-border payment ecosystem.
Lee Ho Sung, Chief Executive Officer of Hana Bank, added that the two sides will work to further develop cross-border payment links, better serving Vietnamese residents in Korea.
