Viet Nam Ao Dai Club organises tribute ceremony to patron ancestor of tailoring

On the occasion of the Death Anniversary of the Patron Ancestor of the tailoring profession on the 12th day of the twelfth lunar month, the Viet Nam Ao Dai Club organised the 2025 Commemoration and Tribute Ceremony to the Patron Ancestor of Tailoring in Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi.

This is an annual gathering carrying the message “Preserving the roots of the tailoring craft, spreading the values of the Vietnamese ao dai.” The ceremony provides an opportunity for the professional community to pay tribute to the merits of the Patron Ancestor, reflect on the journey of preserving the craft, and reaffirm their responsibility to carry it forward in the contemporary context.

Through the rituals of offering to the Patron Ancestor and burning incense, the tailoring community collectively affirms a serious and principled approach to their profession, upholding standards, ethics and cultural depth as the foundation for the long-term development of tailoring in general and ao dai tailoring in particular.

The ceremony also serves as an occasion to recognise the journey of systematic training in tailoring and ao dai design, implemented with the support of central agencies. Through these programmes, many trainees have matured not only in professional skills, but also in cultural awareness, social roles and an understanding of the position of the Vietnamese ao dai in modern life. Ao dai tailoring is thus approached as a creative field linked to education, sustainable labour and national identity.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Viet Nam Ao Dai Club, designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam, expressed his deep emotion at the strong turnout of artisans, designers, lecturers and students from all three regions of the country.

He emphasised that paying tribute to the Patron Ancestor is not merely a traditional ritual, but also a reminder for everyone in the profession to maintain humility, a spirit of learning and professional ethics as enduring foundations.

Within the framework of the programme, various exchange and networking activities were organised to create a space for sharing and connection among generations of practitioners. Alongside the ceremonial rites, gala activities and artistic ao dai performances brought rich cultural colours, helping the ao dai continue to be recognised as a living heritage, naturally present in contemporary life.
