The launch ceremony and a public run themed “All people use energy efficiently and respond to Earth Hour 2026” were held at the Tay Ho Creative Cultural Space in Ha Noi on March 21. The event forms part of the National Programme on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for 2019–2030.

Held under the message “Green Innovation – Green Future”, the run attracted more than 2,000 participants, including government officials, employees of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, businesses, social organisations, and members of the public. The programme also featured several public figures serving as ambassadors, helping to raise awareness of energy conservation.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long said that as Viet Nam enters a new phase of development requiring rapid yet sustainable growth, efficient energy use has become not only a technical solution but also a key driver of productivity, innovation and competitiveness.

In recent years, the ministry has implemented a range of policies to promote energy efficiency, support technological upgrades and improve production processes, contributing to the country’s green transition. Efforts are also under way to expand the use of clean and biofuels in transport, helping diversify energy sources.

Following the launch, a series of nationwide activities will be rolled out, including an online running event via the 84RACE app and a public competition on energy-saving knowledge running until April 11, expected to attract tens of thousands of participants.

Nguyen Hoang Long emphasised that growing concerns over energy security and global market volatility make improving energy efficiency increasingly urgent. He called on ministries, local authorities, businesses and citizens to adopt practical measures, from technological innovation to changes in consumption habits, to promote greener energy use and reduce emissions.

Since its introduction in Viet Nam in 2009, the Earth Hour campaign has gained strong support, helping to spread awareness of responsible electricity use across the country.
