Viet Nam’s aviation sector sees strong recovery in first half

Viet Nam’s aviation sector saw a strong recovery in the first six months of 2025, with the number of passengers up 9.1% over the same period last year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV).

Data showed Vietnamese airlines transported a total of 59.7 million passengers during the January-June period, including 36.8 million domestic passengers, up 6.9%, and 22.9 million foreign passengers, up 12.9%.

With such figures, the domestic aviation sector is expected to continue its recovery and post stable growth in the latter half of 2025 and subsequent years.

In this context, Vietnamese airlines are striving to strengthen their resources and enhance their operational capacity to expand their networks.

Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air are actively expanding international routes, with the launch of new routes to Asia and Europe, while Vietravel Airlines recently received the first aircraft of its own to increase its fleet, in addition to hired aircraft.

Bamboo Airways maintains stable operations, focusing on domestic routes with high demand to serve passengers during the summer travel season.

Amid the strong recovery in passenger numbers, the overall on-time performance fell by 13.1 percentage points to 62.6%, while the cancellation rate rose by a slight 0.2 percentage points to 0.6%.
