The information was announced by the Department of Educational Testing and Accreditation under the Ministry of Education and Training on August 19.
The gold medals were secured by 12th grader Phan Duc Nhat Minh and 11th grader Pham Cao Nguyen from the High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi University of Science, under the Vietnam National University.
The silver medal went to 11th grader Tran Tan Phat from the High School for Gifted Students, under the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, while another 11th grader Le Quang Tuan from the High School for Gifted Students under the Hanoi University of Education, brought home the bronze medal.
The 28th IOI was held in Kazan, Russia from August 12 to 19, featuring competition from 308 contestants representing 81 countries and territories around the world. A total of 154 students were crowned as medallists (26 gold, 51 silver and 77 bronze), accounting for 50% of the total participants.
Russia, China and the US stood out with three gold medals, while Vietnam joined Iran, Japan, Poland and the Republic of Korea to score two gold.
With its four medals, Vietnam ranked seventh among 81 participating delegations, the highest IOI results of the Vietnamese team since 2000.
As planned, the Ministry of Education and Training will receive and present prizes to the Vietnamese IOI medallists at Noi Bai International Airport on August 23.
