Vietnamese embassy in Indonesia commemorates 50th anniversary of national reunification

The Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia solemnly held a ceremony in Jakarta on April 25 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – 2025), under the chair of Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong.

The commemoration serves as an opportunity for every Vietnamese to take pride in the nation's history and to honour the memory of those who came before — the heroes, martyrs, comrades, and fellow citizens, who bravely sacrificed and devoted their lives to the cause of national liberation, reunification, and construction and defence.

In his address, Ambassador Ta Van Thong emphasised that the anniversary offered a meaningful opportunity for all Vietnamese people to reflect on their nation’s glorious history and to pay tribute to previous generations, the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their blood, the comrades and compatriots who devoted their lives to the struggle for national independence and reunification, and the progressive, peace-loving forces around the world who stood in solidarity with the Vietnamese people.

"On a global scale, the victory of the 1975 Spring Offensive stands as a landmark triumph of revolutionary forces worldwide. It significantly fuelled the struggles of people across the globe in pursuit of independence, peace, democracy, and social progress. The victory served as a powerful source of encouragement and inspiration for nations undertaking their own fights for national liberation and resistance against imperialism."

Highlighting the significance of the Spring General Offensive and Uprising in 1975 and the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, Ambassador Thong affirmed: “This monumental victory liberated the South and reunited the country, ushering in a new era for the Vietnamese people — an era of independence, unity, and collective efforts to build a prosperous, strong, democratic, equitable, and civilised socialist Vietnam.”

He further stressed that the historic day of reunification 50 years ago symbolises the nation’s unwavering spirit of independence, self-reliance, resilience, and deep yearning for peace. This spirit remains highly relevant today, as the country continues its comprehensive renewal process and has achieved remarkable progress across all sectors — from the economics and politics to culture, society, national defence, security, and foreign affairs.

On the occasion, Ambassador Thong called upon all staff of the Vietnamese representative agencies in Indonesia to carry forward the spirit of the historic April 30 victory. He urged them to make further contributions to the country’s diplomatic endeavours by fostering unity, creativity, and professionalism; upholding the foreign policy of multilateralisation and diversification; and actively participating in international integration, thus contributing to the successful implementation of national development and modernisation goals.
