The Film Week continues the success of previous seasons, reaffirming the role of cinema in educating traditions, nurturing ideals, and inspiring the aspiration for national development among today’s generation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thu Dung, Director of the People's Army Cinema, emphasised: “The Great Victory of Spring 1975 was a triumph of will, faith, and the aspiration for freedom and independence of the entire Vietnamese people. It was the crystallisation of resilient, indomitable struggle, and of the tremendous sacrifices of millions of soldiers and civilians throughout the harsh years of resistance. The victory on April 30, 1975 marked the end of over 30 years of arduous struggle by our people and ushered in a new era – an era of independence, freedom, reunification, and development for the nation.”
“Fifty years have passed. From a country devastated by war, we have overcome countless challenges to become a peaceful, stable, and developing nation with increasing prestige on the global stage. Looking back at the achievements of our country and people over the past 50 years, we are even more proud and grateful to the generations before us who selflessly fought and sacrificed for the peace we enjoy today,” Dung added.
“From the very early days of fierce resistance, cinema walked alongside our soldiers and people, reflecting major realities of the war; upholding the spirit of our armed forces and civilians in combat and victory; helping both the Vietnamese people and international friends understand more deeply the values of independence, freedom, and peace. Authentic documentary footage served as a mirror of history, reflecting the people’s longing for peace and their spirit of independence. Emotionally rich feature films about war and the Vietnamese people amidst gunfire and bombs have revived heroic memories and spread patriotism to millions of hearts,” Dung went on to say.
According to the organizing committee, this Film Week is a meaningful activity aimed at educating revolutionary tradition, cultivating patriotism, the spirit of courageous struggle, and reinforcing the people’s trust in the Party's leadership across the entire army and population.
To best prepare for this special event, the People's Army Cinema proactively selected a diverse range of documentary and feature films, both from its own archives and from domestic studios, focusing on themes of soldiers and revolutionary war, with high content value and artistic quality.
Through these films, the audiences together revisit the glorious past, pay tribute to the immense contributions of previous generations – heroic martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, veterans, and all those who shed blood for the cause of national liberation.
At the same time, they gain a deeper appreciation for the tremendous achievements the country has made in half a century of peace and renovation, affirming that the path towards socialism chosen by the Vietnamese Party and people is the correct one.
The Film Week Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification is taking place from April 22 to April 25 at the People's Army Cinema, Hanoi.
