Vietnamese telecom companies listed among most valuable ASEAN telecom brands

Vietnam’s three leading telecommunication companies Viettel, MobiFone and Vinaphone have been named in the top 20 most valuable telecom brands of Southeast Asia with a combined value of nearly US$1.8 billion.

Viettel, which owns the biggest share in Vietnam’s telecom market, is ranked seventh, up 17 places from a year ago, according to new data released by UK-based intangible asset valuation consultancy Brand Finance. Viettel was assessed with US$973 million, up 68% and given an A+ rating.

Meanwhile, Mobifone jumped up four steps and was estimated with US$539 million, up 76%, receiving an A rating while Vinaphone was assessed with US$282 million, up 47% and rated A.

Viettel and Mobifone were also listed among the top five Best Performing Brands. Unitel, a branch of Viettel in Laos saw an increase of 106% in trademark value, reaching US$123 million.

Viettel, Mobifone and Vinaphone ranked 93rd, 125th and 167th in the global rankings.

With a brand value of US$2.62 billion, Indonesia’s Telkom topped the regional ranking, followed by Singapore’s Singtel and the Philippines’ PLDT.

The list of the top 20 most valuable ASEAN telecom brands was made by Brand Finance, based on tracking and analysing the activities of telecom powerhouses across the region.
