The annual event aims to honour the emperors of the Tran Dynasty for their great contributions to the cause of national construction and protection, as well as to celebrate the arrival of spring.
The festival, which will run until March 5, features traditional customs and rituals to commemorate the Tran Dynasty emperors.
During the opening ceremony of the festival, visitors had the chance to enjoy unique cultural and artistic performances, such as a drum show and the performance of a Cai luong (reformed theatre) play entitled ‘Emperor-Monk Tran Nhan Tong’.
A wide range of festive activities and folk games, including a cooking competition, wrestling and tug-of-war, will also be held.
According to historical documents, the ancestors of the Tran emperors used to live in the area now known as Nam Dinh province before migrating to Thai Binh where the Tran family began to rise, with the enthronement of Emperor Tran Thai Tong in 1225.
The Tran Temple in Thai Binh province is home to the tombs of the first three emperors as well as other important figures of the Tran Dynasty.
