Gifts of compassion
Returning to the high mountainous commune of Tra Doc, we can feel that life here is gradually reviving. Along the only road stretching about 42km from the commune centre along the Song Tranh 2 hydropower lake to hamlets 4, 5, 6, 9…, severely damaged sections have been urgently repaired by local authorities, allowing cars to travel through.
Landslide sections have been promptly reinforced thanks to emergency funding from Da Nang City. Four houses of residents in hamlets 5 and 9 have been timely repaired through coordination between local authorities and the armed forces.
The Tra Doc Commune authorities have planned and assigned working groups to visit each hamlet to promptly extend Tet greetings and deliver gifts to residents affected by natural disasters.
Chairman of the Tra Doc Commune People’s Committee Phan Duy Hung said that thanks to timely emergency support from Da Nang City and benefactors, no residents in Tra Doc are facing hunger or cold. Roads have also been repaired in time.
The locality has carefully prepared visits and gift-giving activities for revolution contributors, children in especially difficult circumstances, poor households and reputable persons. The commune has compiled detailed lists to deliver gifts from the State President and Da Nang City directly to residents, with a total value of nearly 1.2 billion VND (46,200 USD) in cash and Tet gifts.
In Tra Tan Commune, floods caused severe damage with more than 60 landslide sites, including many major landslides in Tra Giac, Thang Phuong and Ngoc Giac hamlets. Across the commune, 85 houses were damaged or destroyed, including 18 that collapsed or were swept away. After the disaster, under the “Quang Trung” campaign, the locality simultaneously commenced construction of 18 new houses for 18 households. Construction support ranged from 200 million to 250 million VND (7,700–9,600 USD) per house.
On the day she moved into her new, Dinh Thi Ngoc Hai from Ngoc Giac Hamlet, Tra Tan Commune, was deeply moved. “The storm and floods at the end of October 2025 completely swept away my family’s house. Now, receiving support for a house like this, I am very happy. Thanks to the Party, the State and benefactors, this year my family and people here have new houses to welcome Tet.”
Chairman of the Tra Tan Commune People’s Committee, Le Minh Chien said the locality has completed and handed over 18 houses to residents. At the same time, Tra Tan Commune is focusing on ensuring a full Tet for residents.
The locality is visiting and presenting gifts to wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, families of martyrs, revolution contributors, policy beneficiary families, patients receiving treatment at the local Health Station, elderly people and children in especially difficult circumstances. In particular, gifts and food are delivered to residents in remote hamlets, ensuring that everyone has Tet and no one goes hungry ahead of the harvest.
Ensuring no one is left behind
In preparation for Tet, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang and its Standing Board issued Plan No. 12/KHMTTQ-BTT dated December 31, 2025 on providing support for poor, near-poor and especially disadvantaged households so that every household and every person can enjoy Tet.
Accordingly, 14,420 gift packages worth a total of 12.9 billion VND (496,800 USD) have been presented from the city’s Fund for the Poor to vulnerable groups, ensuring proper beneficiaries, transparency and practicality.
Vice Chairwoman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong, said that alongside mobilising resources to support residents during Tet, the Committee has coordinated with relevant units to organise the Tet gift-giving programme, to assist people in western and south-western mountainous communes, particularly those severely affected by recent natural disasters.
These activities not only provide timely material support to help ease difficulties ahead of the New Year, but also carry great spiritual significance, bringing trust, warmth and encouragement for people to strive forward in life.
Such humane and compassionate activities further deepen the tradition of solidarity and kindness of the nation and of the people of Da Nang, while affirming the important role of social organisations in ensuring that spring is truly warm and complete for all.
