On December 25, the Executive Committee of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee held its second conference to review the implementation of political tasks in 2025 and to outline key directions and priorities for 2026.
According to the Standing Board of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee, 2025 marked a particularly significant year for the province, as it had to simultaneously focus on leading the implementation of policies on mergers and restructuring of the political system and two-tier administrative units, while maintaining economic growth momentum. Despite numerous challenges, the Provincial Party Committee successfully directed the completion of 24 out of 26 major targets.
A notable highlight was the smooth operation of the newly reorganised administrative apparatus from the provincial to the grassroots level, ensuring uninterrupted state management and public services. In particular, the successful organisation of the first Provincial Party Congress (term 2025–2030) laid a solid political foundation for the new development phase.
The province’s economic growth was robust, reaching 8.39 per cent. All key sectors posted impressive results: agriculture, forestry, and fisheries grew by 3.53 per cent; industry and construction by 12.88 per cent; and services by 10.61 per cent. Notably, tourism experienced a surge, welcoming more than 24 million visitors, including over 1.9 million international arrivals — far exceeding the planned targets, and generating revenue of more than 67 trillion VND.
Social welfare efforts also achieved significant results, with the multidimensional poverty rate reduced to just 0.91 per cent, and the province completing the programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing.
Looking ahead to 2026, An Giang has set out 36 specific targets under the guiding spirit of “Innovation – Creativity – Sustainability”. The province aims for an economic growth rate of at least 10.71 per cent, raising average per capita income to 95.14 million VND per year.
Key priorities include developing strategic economic corridors, particularly the Chau Doc–Long Xuyen economic axis, border corridors, and connectivity with the Chau Doc–Can Tho–Soc Trang Expressway, provincial and urban roads, and rural transport networks. The province will also upgrade digital, postal and telecommunications infrastructure to promote digital government, the digital economy and a digital society.
To establish a solid foundation for the entire term, An Giang Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai called on the entire political system to act decisively across several key task groups. These include concretising programmes and projects to implement the resolution of the first Provincial Party Congress, prioritising the implementation of three strategic breakthroughs from the first quarter of 2026: strengthening administrative discipline, accelerating reform linked with digital transformation, and promoting the exemplary role of leaders at all levels.
