Specifically, Australia’s 2026–2027 budget allocates a total of 98.3 million AUD to its development partnership with Viet Nam, compared with 96.6 million AUD in the 2025–2026 period.

On this occasion, Gillian Bird, Australian Ambassador to Viet Nam, welcomed the announcement by the Australian Government and emphasised that, amid global uncertainties, Australia remains a trusted partner of Viet Nam.

According to the Ambassador, Australia’s development programme in Viet Nam is supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth while contributing to a peaceful, stable and prosperous region for all.

Australia has long been regarded as a reliable and enduring development partner of Viet Nam, having provided more than AUD 3 billion in development assistance since 1973. Australia’s current development partnership is supporting Viet Nam’s goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045 through investments in economic growth, human resource development, climate action, gender equality and disability inclusion.

The Australian Embassy in Viet Nam also stated that Australia will allocate a total of 5.2 billion AUD in ODA for the 2026–2027 period, an increase of 2.2% compared with 2025–2026. Of this amount, an estimated 1.35 billion AUD in ODA will be directed to Southeast Asia, up 73.6 million AUD from the 2025–2026 budget.
