The week-long event, which will take place at the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO, features seven nights of performances of professional symphony, ballet and opera concerts by famous Vietnamese artists. Bui Cong Duy, Dang Linh Nga, Dao Nhat Quang, Nguyen Manh Duy Linh and young talents Dieu Linh and Dieu An from Russia will perform, as will several artists from Germany and Norway.

Eight years have passed since its debut, and the biennial art festival has developed to a larger scale, drawing the participation of hundreds of professional artists.

An August 16 performance of "Dong chay" (Flow), a Vietnamese choral folk suite composed by Tran Manh Hung and performed by HBSO Choir and Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Tran Nhat Minh, will be the highlight of this year's festival.

“We want to bring Vietnamese folk genres onto the professional stage as they are as important as other academic genres,” said Director of HBSO, Tran Vuong Thach.

"Cinderella" a ballet choreographed by Norwegian Johanne Jakhelln Constant is also expected to attract a large audience. It will be staged by HBSO Ballet on August 20.

Director Thach went on to say that the HBSO has also tried to ensure that half of each of its programmes are composed by Vietnamese artists, particularly young artists to stimulate their creativity.

With diversified art forms and high quality performances, the festival has become one of the biggest arts events in Ho Chi Minh City for local and foreign art lovers alike.
