Construction of two bridges connecting Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City commences

Cat Lai Bridge and Long Hung Bridge are not merely isolated transport projects; they are identified as strategic infrastructure links that will help expand the space for urban, industrial, and logistics development while alleviating traffic pressure on existing routes between the two largest cities in the South.

On September 29, in Dai Phuoc Commune, Dong Nai City, construction officially commenced on the Cat Lai Bridge and Long Hung Bridge projects (Component Project 2). These two bridges span the Dong Nai River, connecting Dong Nai City with Ho Chi Minh City, with a combined total investment of nearly 37 trillion VND.

The Cat Lai Bridge project has a total length of over 11.6 km, with the main span and approach bridges accounting for 3.65 km. Spanning the Dong Nai River, the bridge lies on a vital inter-regional transport route connecting the My Thuy intersection on Ring Road 2 (Cat Lai Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) to the Ben Luc–Long Thanh Expressway (Dai Phuoc Commune, Dong Nai City).

Cat Lai Bridge is designed to accommodate six lanes for motorised vehicles and two lanes for non-motorised vehicles, with a design speed of 80 km/h. The structure features a permanent design utilising steel and reinforced concrete; the main span is a cable-stayed bridge with two cable planes, a main span length of 450 metres, and a record-breaking vertical clearance of 55 metres. This clearance allows super-sized container ships with a capacity of up to 60,000 DWT to safely enter and exit the port, fully meeting navigation requirements on the Dong Nai River.

Construction of the Cat Lai Bridge project is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion and commissioning expected in 2029; the total investment capital exceeds 24 trillion VND. Notably, Component Project 2—the most critical part of the overall undertaking—comprises the main bridge spanning the Dong Nai River and approach bridges on both the Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai sides, with a total investment of nearly 15 trillion VND.

The remaining capital of over 9 trillion VND is allocated to Component Project 1, which utilises local government budgets to fund compensation and site clearance for an area of nearly 127 hectares, as well as the construction of connecting roads.

The Long Hung Bridge investment project has a total investment of over 12.7 trillion VND; implementation is set to begin in 2026, with completion and commissioning expected in 2029.

The Long Hung Bridge connects Long Phuoc Ward (Ho Chi Minh City) with An Phuoc Commune (Dong Nai Province); its starting point is in Long Phuoc Ward, and its terminus connects to the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway.

The total length of the entire route is approximately 9.8 km, with the main bridge and approach bridges — part of Component Project 2 — accounting for about 3.5 km.

The project is divided into two component projects. Specifically, Component Project 1 — covering site clearance and the construction of connecting roads and bridges along the route extending from the approach to Long Hung Bridge (Dong Nai side) to the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway — has a total investment of nearly 4.3 trillion VND, funded by Dong Nai Province’s public investment budget.
