On the import side, fruit and vegetable import revenue in the first 10 months of 2026 is estimated at more than 2.7 billion USD, up 28.3% year on year, resulting in a trade surplus of more than 5.5 billion USD for the sector.

In the first nine months of the year, China, the US, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Japan and the Netherlands were Viet Nam’s five largest fruit and vegetable export markets. China remained the biggest market, accounting for more than 64.8% of total export value.

Specifically, in September 2026, Viet Nam’s fruit and vegetable exports to China reached 845.6 million USD, down 20.3% from the previous month and 20.5% from September 2025. However, exports to the market still recorded double-digit growth in the first nine months, reaching 4.72 billion USD, up 22.4% year on year.

Similarly, fruit and vegetable exports to the US reached 484.7 million USD in the first nine months, up 19.2%. Exports to the RoK and Japan also grew positively, reaching 263.6 million USD and 193.8 million USD, respectively, up 11.1% and 6.2% year on year.

In addition, exports to several other major markets maintained double-digit growth in the first nine months, including the Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia, Germany, Russia and Canada. Notably, exports to Cambodia surged by a triple-digit rate. Meanwhile, exports to Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continued to decline, reaching 83.8 million USD and 55.9 million USD, respectively, down 6.9% and 34.6% year on year.

Dang Phuc Nguyen, Secretary-General of the Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetables Association, said Viet Nam’s fruit and vegetable exports were expected to remain positive in the final months of 2026, driven by rising consumer demand in China, other Asian countries, Europe and the Americas.

Specifically, September and October marked the final stage of the peak durian harvest in the Central Highlands. The advantage of supplying fresh durians to China during this period is expected to help keep export value high. In November and December, demand for goods for the year-end festive season surges in China, the RoK, Japan and countries across Europe and the Americas.

Meanwhile, key export products are shifting towards dragon fruit, fresh coconuts, passion fruit, pomelos, mangoes and processed fruit and vegetable products. These products will help offset the decline in fresh durian supplies after the peak season and provide a new impetus for sectoral growth.

According to the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, to sustain stable growth in major markets, businesses must meet increasingly stringent technical requirements imposed by importing countries.
