Emergency relocation of 16 households at risk of landslides in Lao Cai

Immediately after surveying and assessing the situation, the leaders of Ban Xeo commune mobilised police, military, disaster prevention and control task forces, mass organisations, along with the Party Committee, government, and people, to urgently assist in moving 16 households and one cold-water fish farming household to a safe location. The relocation work was carried out quickly and synchronously, ensuring the safety of people and property.

Local authorities have arranged temporary accommodation for the affected households at Ban Xeo Primary and Secondary School, while continuing to closely monitor weather developments and review areas at risk of landslides.

Directly supervising the forces assisting the people at the scene, Ban Thanh Thao, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Ban Xeo commune, requested that all forces maintain strict duty rosters, regularly inspect and monitor areas at risk of landslides, proactively develop response plans, and be ready to mobilise forces and equipment when situations arise.

The top priority is ensuring the safety of people's lives and property. Therefore, the forces must absolutely not be complacent or negligent, but must proactively warn and encourage people to comply with the relocation order, preventing people from returning to dangerous areas until safety is guaranteed.

According to statistics, currently, the entire Ban Xeo commune has 67 households located in landslide-prone areas. To ensure safety, the People’s Committee of the commune has established working groups to regularly monitor and proactively respond immediately when there is a risk of natural disasters; actively accelerating the construction of a resettlement area for approximately 60 households, ensuring the relocation of households in dangerous areas to safe locations.
