According to records from Ha Noi’s power system, peak capacity (Pmax) reached 6,203MW at 9:30pm on May 25, the highest level in history and up 3.4% compared with the peak capacity recorded in 2025 (5,992MW). Electricity consumption on May 25 also reached 125.87 million kWh, up 2.4% compared with the 2025 peak of 122.84 million kWh. All these indicators set new records.
Prolonged severe heat, with high temperatures, has increased customers’ demand for electrical appliances, especially cooling devices.
In addition, many outdoor electrical devices have had to withstand high-temperature conditions throughout the day. As a result, during the power system’s peak hours, the risk of localised overload remains.
In response to this situation, the Ha Noi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI) has launched the “Ha Noi 26+” campaign with a simple but practical message: set air conditioners at 26 degrees Celsius or above. This is not only an act of saving electricity but also a way for every resident to help reduce the risk of power grid overload during the hot season.
According to energy experts, increasing the air conditioner temperature by just one degree Celsius can reduce electricity consumption by 3–5%. When millions of air conditioners are adjusted properly at the same time, the electricity-saving effect for the entire city will be significant.
With only small changes, such as setting air conditioners at 26 degrees Celsius or above, using fans together with air conditioners to improve cooling efficiency, avoiding frequent switching on and off, and turning off devices when not in use, every resident can help the power system operate more stably during the summer.
The campaign does not call for people to cut back on essential daily needs. Instead, it aims to encourage smarter and more reasonable electricity use — keeping every household cool enough while helping reduce electricity costs during the hot season.
