Present at the National Funeral Home in Hanoi early in the morning, Maysaa Phanthabouasy, a 22-year-old Lao student in Vietnam, joined the lines of people waiting to pay respects to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

As a student studying in Quang Ninh Province, she rode the motorbike for more than two hours to Hanoi and waited another ten hours to bid farewell to the late Vietnamese leader.

Maysaa said she was moved when reading stories about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and is deeply grateful for his contributions to the Vietnam-Laos friendship.

The Lao girl said “When I saw people around me crying, I also could not hold back my tears. Such a scene shows how much General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, is loved by the people.”

Two 22-year-old Dutch Marvin Everseen and Mika Birchwood stood at one end of Tran Nhan Tong Street to wait for their turn to pay respects to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

They shared that after arriving in Hanoi as part of their Vietnam tour, they heard news of the General Secretary’s passing and wanted to express their respect for the late Vietnamese leader like many other Vietnamese people.

He shared “When standing in front of the General Secretary’s coffin, I fell silent for a while. I could not hold back my tears. I love Vietnam and the Vietnamese people very much.”

In Lai Da Village, Eltonbritis from South Africa, who has been living in Vietnam for six years, shared that during their time in Vietnam, he got to love the country and its people, especially General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Therefore, in the early morning of July 26, he asked a Vietnamese friend to take him from Gia Lam to the General Secretary’s house to pay his respects.
