The World Invention Creativity Olympic (WICO) is an annual competition organised by the Korea University Invention Association and sponsored by the parliament of the Republic of Korea. Secondary and high school students worldwide are offered the chance to present their innovations.

The event encourages creative ideas, provides new insights, accelerates creativity, improves presentation skills, and establishes a global network.

So far, this is the 7th time Vietnamese students have attended WICO and won high results.

In 2023, the contest was held in the city of Seoul, the RoK, from February 3 to 4. The team of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted that participated in this contest consisted of four students: Vu Duc Manh, Nguyen Trong Phuc, Tran Phuong Linh and Hoang Mai Phuc Thinh.

The children competed and won the Gold Medal with the topic "Squid ink-derived nanomelanin protects human dermal fibroblasts against X-rays", under the guidance of their teacher, Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Xuan, Head of the Biology - Technology Team at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted.

This achievement once again affirms the scientific research and teamwork capacity of Vietnamese students, especially students at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted.

This result is also consistent with the orientation of students' capacity development in the 2018 General Education Programme.
