French-language newspaper Le Courrier du Vietnam awarded Prime Minister's certificate of merit

French-language newspaper Le Courrier du Vietnam held a ceremony in Hanoi on September 5 to celebrate its 30th anniversary and receive the Prime Minister's certificate of merit.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Director of Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Vu Viet Trang congratulated the staff of Le Courrier du Vietnam on the 30th anniversary of the newspaper’s first issue.

She expressed her belief that Le Courrier du Vietnam will continue renovating its operations to become a trusted source of information for French-speaking users around the world who wants to learn about the country and people of Vietnam.

She stressed that, over the past eight decades, external information in French has always played an effective role in connecting Vietnam and the Francophone community.

Nearly three decades ago, VNA officially released the first issue of the French-language newspaper Le Courrier du Vietnam with the hope to directly provide information about Vietnam to the French-speaking community.

From its beginnings as 4-page weekly newspaper launched on September 5, 1993, under the VNA, Le Courrier du Vietnam has become an important external information agency.

Trang conveyed her special thanks for the effective support and close cooperation from the International Organisation of Francophonie (OIF), the Wallonia Brussels delegation, embassies of French-speaking countries for Le Courrier du Vietnam Newspaper and VNA in general over the past years.

While reviewing the 30-year development of Le Courrier du Vietnam, Nguyen Hong Nga. The newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief emphasised that it is the only French-language newspaper published in Vietnam.

Over the past three decades, the newspaper has strived to fulfil its political tasks and become a reliable information channel for French-speaking readers at home and abroad.

She reported that Le Courrier du Vietnam has attracted a large number of online readers from over 160 countries around the world.

In addition, the weekly Le Courrier du Vietnam is also present in all embassies, delegations, Francophone organisations, and French-language teaching schools in Vietnam as well as in many Francophone countries worldwide.

At the ceremony, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang awarded the Prime Minister's certificate of merit to Le Courrier du Vietnam Newspaper.
