This is an annual meaningful activity organised by the Ha Noi Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with relevant units to maintain and promote activities on energy saving and efficient use with a strong spread effect mong the community, contributing to ensuring electricity supply, saving energy and resources, protecting a sustainable living environment, and supporting the city’s target of achieving GRDP growth of 11% or higher in 2026.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Dinh Thang, Deputy Director of the Ha Noi Department of Industry and Trade, said that on March 19, 2026, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 09/CT-TTg on strengthening energy saving, promoting energy transition and developing electric transport vehicles.

The target by 2030 is to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP by 1–1.5% per year; strive to reduce electricity losses in transmission and distribution across the entire system to 5.8%; and ensure that at least 50% of public transport vehicles in cities are converted to electric vehicles.

In 2026, Ha Noi aims to achieve energy savings of 1.6–1.8% compared to forecast demand, including at least 2.2% of total electricity consumption for each consumption sector, 3% per year for key energy-using facilities, electricity grid losses below 3.5%, recognition of 60 energy-using facilities with the “Green Energy” title, and recognition of 1,260 exemplary households at the city level and 6,300 exemplary households at the ward and commune levels for energy-saving practices.

Representing the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Head of the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion, said that the message “Green Innovation – Green Future” emphasises a new approach: energy saving is not only about “reducing”, but about being smarter, more efficient and more sustainable. Innovation, digital transformation, technology application, the use of high-efficiency equipment and modern energy management are key factors in improving energy efficiency across the entire economy.

Appreciating Viet Nam’s significant efforts in recent years, particularly in the energy sector, Michael Kratz, Economic and Climate Diplomacy Counsellor of the Federal Republic of Germany in Viet Nam, said that Germany has provided strong support to Viet Nam through various projects addressing air and environmental pollution challenges.

Michael Kratz affirmed that Germany will maintain technical expertise, financial support and training programmes to accompany Viet Nam in its transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The German Government, through the German International Cooperation Organisation (GIZ), has officially extended the project “Promoting the energy transition in Viet Nam (TEV)” until December 2026. In addition, Germany is supporting Viet Nam through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) to mobilise financial resources to promote the transition to renewable energy.

At the same time, Germany will continue to provide technical expertise, financial support and training programmes to support Viet Nam in its transition process to a greener and more sustainable future.

Sharing the power sector’s orientation in responding to the Earth Hour campaign and this year’s summer peak, Ngo Son Hai, Deputy General Director of Viet Nam Electricity (EVN), emphasised that EVN will focus on improving the effectiveness of electricity demand management programmes, particularly for large electricity users.

At the same time, it will promote the application of digital technologies to enable customers to proactively monitor, understand and adjust their electricity usage more easily; and continue to coordinate with localities, management agencies and social organisations to maintain communication activities targeted at specific groups, thereby raising awareness and changing energy using behaviour in the community.

Within the framework of the launching event, a signing ceremony for a load-shifting agreement between Ha Noi Power Corporation and major enterprises in the city took place—an important milestone in coordinating load management, contributing to ensuring energy security and the sustainable development of the Capital.

In parallel, experiential activities were organised, including models applying renewable energy in urban spaces and households, electricity-generating cycling, and creative activities of the community to spread the Earth Hour message such as painting and flashmob dancing, as well as exhibition spaces featuring products, technologies and services related to clean energy, efficient energy use and environmental protection.
