Chief of Protocol of the Belgian Foreign Ministry Rudy Huygelen made the statement at a meeting to mark 20 years of the DVIZ establishment in the northern port city on April 5.
The Belgian government is always supportive of the expansion of cooperation projects in Vietnam, particularly in the field of the green energy development, he said, adding that bilateral ties have been reaching a new height.
On the occasion, the DVIZ received the Labour Order, first class, from the State President.
Addressing the event, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Le Van Thanh noted that the DVIZ is a venture project between Hai Phong and Belgian businesses, especially with the participation of the Belgian government.
The DVIZ has created a new model facilitating foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction, serving national industrialisation and modernisation, and contributing actively to Hai Phong’s socio-economic development over the past years, he said.
Hai Phong would continue accelerating administrative reforms and building a constructive government in service of both domestic and foreign enterprises, Thanh affirmed, stressing that the success and efficiency of the DVIZ will remain a clear symbol for the growing friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and Belgium.
On the occasion, Hai Phong city and Belgium’s Rent- A Port Company inked a cooperative deal in implementing “green” projects (developing renewable energy, producing fresh water from sea water and manufacturing power from waste).
After 20 years, the DVIZ has developed into a modern IZ meeting Hai Phong’s demands for development and investment attraction. So far, the IZ has lured US$3 billion from 70 multinational companies investing in diverse fields, with many world-famous names such as Bridgestone, JX Nippon Oil & Energy, Idemitsu, Shin-etsu, Chevron, PVOil, IHI, Nippon Express, Yusen, Knauf, C.Steinweg, and Flat Group.
The DVIZ has created over 10,000 direct jobs and 50,000 indirect jobs in the field of industrial services, contributing significantly to the rapid industrialisation of Hai Phong and the whole country as well.
