Hanoi students win seven medals at Int’l Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics

The Hanoi student delegation represented Vietnamese students and won one silver medal, five bronze medals and one consolation prize, at the 15th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) 2022.

The members of the delegation are all students from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

The student who won the silver medal was Bui Gia Nhat Minh, while Do Quynh Anh, Nguyen Duc Hiep, Tran Quang Minh Duy, Vu Hoang Quoc Bao, and Nguyen An Loc won bronze medals. The remaining member of the delegation, Nguyen Manh Hung won the consolation prize.

This year's International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics was held in Georgia, from August 14 to August 22, with the participation of students from 60 countries and territories. The Vietnamese delegation consisted of nine students from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

The International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics is an annual international science competition for high school students, organised to recognise the role of astronomy and astrophysics, and is also an opportunity for students from different countries and regions to enhance exchanges.

The exam was held for the first time in Thailand in November 2007.

At the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2021, the Vietnamese student delegation won two gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals.
