After the conversion, Ho Chi Minh City will have completed and put into operation 11 social housing projects with 3,000 affordable flats in 2013.
The city now has more than 2,200 resettlement flats and 1,769 of which will be turned into social housing to meet the demand of households who lost homes for building public projects but not eligible for resettlement flats.
By May 2013, the city had nearly 13,000 inventory flats with an estimated value of VND23,000 billion (US$1.1 billion).
35 commercial housing projects were registered to turn into social housing projects but only three of which were approved by the city's Department of Construction and the remaining others are awaiting the approval from the city's People's Committee.
