The ceremony highlighted the efforts made by the Ha Giang authorities and people to conserve the terraces and ensure their sustainability. In addition to being aesthetically beautiful, the terraces also have great cultural and historical value.

The Hoang Su Phi terraced fields, located in Ban Luoc, San Sa Ho, Ban Phung, Ho Thau, Nam Ty and Thong Nguyen communes of Ha Giang province, are evidence of centuries of wet rice cultivation by ethnic minorities in the Hoang Su Phi area, including the Nung, Dao and La Chi ethnic groups.

The ceremony was held to raise public awareness about the fields and begin connecting them with other national heritage sites in Vietnam to promote their preservation and tourism potential.

The fifth Hoang Su Phi district Culture and Sports Festival also opened earlier, featuring traditional ethnic arts and cultures.
