An agreement to this effect was recently signed between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Vietnamese Government, JICA stated on August 31.

The repayment period for the project is 40 years, with an interest rate of 0.3% per year, in addition to a grace period of 10 years.

Through the construction of an urban wastewater treatment system, the project aims to expand the zone of sewage treatment in Bien Hoa, contributing to improving public sanitation and the sustainable development of the city and downstream areas.

Over 200 Japanese companies are now conducting business in Dong Nai, however, the drainage system within the locality is poor and untreated wastewater in Bien Hoa is directly discharged into Dong Nai River - the water supply for Ho Chi Minh City.

Water quality in the rivers in Bien Hoa is also very poor due to a lack of drainage systems, causing public sanitation and environmental problems.

Therefore, it is urgent to accelerate the construction of the drainage system
in Bien Hoa City, an JICA official said.

The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in November 2023.
