Leading US travel magazine praises surreal beauty of Son Doong Cave

The world-renowned travel magazine Travel + Leisure published an article in early July 2025 about Son Doong Cave, hailing it as the “largest cave in the world” with breathtaking beauty and a uniquely unparalleled exploration experience, as shared by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri Province.

In the article titled “World’s Largest Cave Has Its Own Climate System With Jungles, Rivers, and Clouds”, Travel + Leisure describes Son Doong as an “otherworldly site” with immense domes, a primeval forest ecosystem deep underground, a subterranean river system, and its own distinct microclimate.

The prestigious US magazine notes that Son Doong Cave is large enough to accommodate a 40-storey building, with stalagmites that are millions of years old. It is considered one of the most magnificent and challenging destinations on the planet, with access limited to around 1,000 visitors each year through adventure tours exclusively organised by Oxalis Adventure — the only authorised operator.

Travel + Leisure further emphasises that the journey to Son Doong is not for the masses but a truly exceptional adventure, where people are utterly overwhelmed by the great and pristine nature of the site.

According to a representative from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri Province, the continued international recognition of Son Doong Cave is vivid proof of Quang Tri’s powerful appeal on the global adventure tourism map.

This also serves as a driving force for the province to continue preserving, conserving, and promoting the values of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park World Natural Heritage Site, aiming towards sustainable, world-class tourism development.

In a related development, a representative from Oxalis Adventure stated that tours for are now open for booking for adventure travel enthusiasts.
