In recent times, Quang Ninh province has promoted responsibility and had many practical solutions in the management and protection of Ha Long Bay Heritage.

In 2023, the province completed the provincial-level science and technology task on researching and assessment of the current status and influencing factors as a basis for proposing solutions to preserve Trong Mai Islet, Ha Long Bay.

Based on the results of the project, the province has directed the immediate implementation of immediate solutions to preserve and ensure safety for Trong Mai Islet, developed a plan to release warning buoys around Trong Mai Islet to minimise the possibility of collision between ships and boats; at the same time, reported and proposed the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to direct and support the province in implementing solutions to preserve Trong Mai Islet in particular, and protect the outstanding global value of Ha Long Bay Heritage in general.

In parallel, research activities on the values of Ha Long Bay have regularly been maintained by the heritage management agency, especially assessing the current status of the coral reef ecosystem, as a basis for implementing solutions to preserve and sustainably promote the values of the Heritage and delimiting some coral reefs with high coverage; survey and establish records of some geological and geomorphological heritage sites to preserve and sustainably promote the geological and geomorphological values of Ha Long Bay Heritage; strengthen inspection and warning of landslides on the islands; collect and establish a database to serve the restoration and reconstruction of raft houses preserved on the Bay.

To prepare for the peak summer tourist season, one of the issues that has received special attention since the beginning of the year is the protection of the marine environment.

Up to now, 100% of newly built tourist ships operating in Ha Long Bay must install a domestic wastewater treatment system that meets Vietnam’s national standards; and attach the Green Sail ecological label to tourist ships. Ha Long Bay water quality has periodically been monitored and supervised. The results show that no issues regarding the current conservation status that could affect the outstanding global value of the heritage have been identified.

In addition, the province has closely coordinated with functional units of Hai Phong city to review, inspect, and handle the situation of floating waste in the sea area bordering Ha Long Bay and the bays of Cat Ba archipelago. Thanks to such efforts, the landscape of Ha Long Bay has become increasingly green, clean, and beautiful.

Along with environmental protection, to develop Ha Long Bay tourism in a sustainable direction, increase the experience for tourists, improve the quality of existing tourism products and services in Ha Long Bay, such as visiting caves, swimming, kayaking, staying overnight on cruise ships, exploring yachts, visiting Ha Long Bay by seaplane...; the province also prioritizes the development of tourism products associated with cultural resources.
