On August 20 in Da Nang, a large number of delegates attended the National Scientific Conference with the theme "Viet Nam Studies – 30 Years of Value Creation and Future Orientation". The conference was co-organised by Duy Tan University in collaboration with Hanoi Metropolitan University, Da Lat University, and Hong Bang International University.
The conference was a scholarly event of great significance for Viet Nam Studies. It was held not only to look back at the 30-year journey of value creation of the discipline but, more importantly, to reposition the mission of Viet Nam Studies in the new era — an era of the nation’s rise amidst global integration, with profound social transformations in the region and strong technological innovations both domestically and internationally.
At the conference, scientists, administrators, lecturers, and generations of students engaged in frank exchanges and dialogues as well as the creation of breakthrough ideas, contributing to the sustainable and effective development of Viet Nam Studies and meeting the employment demands of society in the new context.
Going beyond the limits of a narrow, specialised discipline, Viet Nam Studies has become an integrated academic model with deep interdisciplinarity. This development not only adopts research theories from Western area and international studies but also affirms and enriches the intellectual identity of the East, creating a solid foundation to study the cultural values and characteristics of the country and people of Viet Nam and promote them to the world; playing a pivotal role in many important aspects of contemporary social life, both rural and urban.

Delegates strongly agreed that Viet Nam Studies is not only a discipline about the past and present but also a discipline of the future, where traditional values connect with modern trends to create new values.
In conclusion, Professor, Doctor, People’s Teacher Nguyen Quang Ngoc emphasised that the conference provided an opportunity for scholars, lecturers, and administrators to review the three-decade journey of value creation of the discipline, thereby repositioning the mission of Viet Nam Studies in the new era of the nation, technological innovation, and profound social transformations, forming the basis for the development of Viet Nam Studies today and in the future.
