Nearly 1,000 entries sent to painting contest on Vietnamese cultural heritage

The painting contest on Vietnamese cultural heritages 2023 has attracted nearly 1,000 works from nearly 500 authors, after five months of launching.

Accordingly, the organising board received 839 works from 494 authors sent to participate in the contest.

The works have a variety of materials, from oil paint, silk, lacquer, and gouache to wood engraving, metal engraving, plaster, newspaper grafting, ceramic glaze, oil wax, engraved paint, woodblocks, watercolour ink on do paper, embroidery on lotus flowers and paper carving.

The contest's organising board also announced the Jury Council to include artist Le Huy Tiep (former Chairman of the Arts Council, Vietnam Fine Arts Association) - Chairman; painter Luong Xuan Doan (Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association) - Vice President; Master To Van Dong, Head of the Competition Organising Committee - Vice Chairman; Jury members include: artist and writer Do Phan and PhD, critic Tran Hau Yen The, Vice Chairman of the Art Council of Criticism, Vietnam Fine Arts Association - Member.

Currently, the Jury Council is selecting works for the final round, expected in October and November. It is expected that the winning works will be selected for exhibition on the occasion of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23).

Organised by the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association and launched in mid-May, the contest aims to preserve and promote the treasured value of national culture.

The contest is open to art lovers, especially young artists and art students at arts and culture universities and colleges nationwide, as well as Overseas Vietnamese people living abroad.

As many as 27 prizes worth 960 million in total, will be presented. The organising board will select 73 outstanding paintings to exhibit at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum and other cultural places.
