In particular, the model of nurseries producing forestry seedlings serving raw material areas deployed by the National Agricultural Extension Centre, promises to help partly solve the source of seedlings in the provinces of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue.
According to the National Agricultural Extension Centre, the building of nursery models to produce forestry seedlings to serve raw material areas will be implemented from 2022 to 2024, in the two provinces of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue.
This model aims to transfer the production process of good quality hybrid acacia varieties, to serve high-quality afforestation for large wood material areas; create a large wood material area to serve domestic and export processing needs, contribute to meeting FSC sustainable forest management standards; improve the capacity and role of cooperatives associated with businesses in organising seed production, afforestation, certification and product consumption.
The implementation process will build six nursery models to produce quality seedlings, with a productivity of about 500,000 trees per year, in the two provinces of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue.
Through the model, people will be guided to master the technique of incubating seedlings from acacia hybrid tissue, with a success rate of 85% or more. Along with that, the model will contribute to stabilising high-quality seed sources and reducing seed costs for large wood material areas.
To effectively deploy the models, specialized agencies have organized many training classes outside the model for 390 people in the project area, to master the process of using and operating the nursery; the process of planting large timber forests according to sustainable forest management criteria; master the principles and criteria for implementing sustainable forest certification and the steps to make a dossier for granting a certificate of sustainable forest management.
According to the National Agricultural Extension Centre, the building of nursery models to produce forestry seedlings to serve raw material areas will be implemented from 2022 to 2024, in the two provinces of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue.
In addition, with the improved technology of the nursery, the upper shading systems are automatically and semi-automatically controlled, and the dome system to cover rain, wind, humidity, sprinkler irrigation, and rain spray can automatically create suitable conditions for nursery seedlings.
According to assessments, hybrid acacia trees in the model have a high survival rate of 90% or more. Once completed, the project promises to help people plant forests in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces, to approach effective forestry production methods by applying hybrid seedlings to production.
Director of the National Centre for Agricultural Extension Le Quoc Thanh shared, that the production of seedlings in the nursery creates uniformity of seeds and provides enough quality seeds for the people. Currently, localities along the Truong Son range are focusing on developing wood material areas. Therefore, the application of technology to seedling application in production is one of the solutions to do that. However, it is necessary to link production to create a value chain and increase people's income.

According to the Agricultural Extension Centre of Quang Tri Province, building a nursery and transferring the production process of high-quality seedlings will help local people actively breed forest trees. On the other hand, when there is a good source of seeds, it will increase the value of planted forests, improve people's incomes, and aim for sustainable forest development associated with forest certification.
According to Thanh, the nursery model is the core technology to build material areas for afforestation in the area. Because the nursery model has brought advanced science and technology into seed production, it is tissue culture technology to create a qualified seed source.
Director of Long Thanh Cooperative in Vinh Ha Commune, Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri Province Vo Long Thanh, said when building a nursery model, the National Centre for Agricultural Extension sent staff to advise on the construction process. Setting up nurseries to the process of sowing and selling seedlings. The model has just been completed and entered the nursery of acacia hybrid tissue.
According to assessments, the hybrid acacia trees at the nursery are growing well. Each nursery period will be sold for about three months with 100,000 trees supplying about 50 hectares of forest. The nursery can produce up to 800,000 trees per year. The cooperative is striving to sell at a cheaper price than the market, to help farmers with afforestation costs.
