Power restored to nearly 170,000 more Central Region customers after floods

Viet Nam Electricity’s Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) reported that as of 7 a.m. on October 31, nearly 310,000 customers in four central provinces and cities were still without electricity. Compared with the same time on October 30, nearly 170,000 customers had been reconnected, reflecting great efforts by local power units amid severe flooding.

EVNCPC has mobilised maximum manpower, vehicles, and materials to restore power as quickly as possible.

On the 110kV network, one 110kV line (Dak Mil 4–Phuoc Son) and a double-circuit customer line (Tra My–Song Tranh 2) remain out of service and have been temporarily isolated for safety. The 110kV Phuoc Son and Nam Tra My substations are still unable to operate due to terrain separation and continuous heavy rainfall. Da Nang Power Company is urgently inspecting the grid and plans to restore supply to the Phuoc Son substation via the 22kV 471/TTG Hiep Duc line and to the Nam Tra My substation via the intermediate Nuoc Xa route.

Across the medium-voltage grid, EVNCPC has reported 577 incidents caused by flooding, of which 290 have been resolved. Currently, 309,404 customers, equivalent to 6.26% of EVNCPC’s total, remain without power, mainly in Da Nang, Hue, Quang Ngai, and Quang Tri, representing 13.01% of customers in those areas.

Da Nang is the most severely affected, with 225,081 customers (25.68%) and 2,031 distribution substations (19.76%) offline, equivalent to an estimated 121.2 MW or 13.33% of lost capacity, spanning 60 wards and communes.

In Hue City, 74,384 customers (21.65%) and 522 substations (18.17%) remain without power, losing an estimated 52 MW (19.12%), mainly across 25 wards and communes.

In Quang Tri, 7,312 customers (1.40%) and 53 substations (0.92%) are still affected, with 1.6 MW (0.37%) of capacity lost, mainly in parts of Trieu Phong, Quang Trach, Trung Thuan, and Ba Don.

In Quang Ngai, 2,627 customers (0.42%) and 84 substations (1.31%) remain without power, with an estimated 1.02 MW (0.19%) lost, mainly in Son Tay Thuong, Minh Long, Tay Tra, Mang But, and parts of Dak Plo Commune.

EVNCPC has directed its subsidiaries to mobilise all available personnel and equipment, working closely with local authorities to ensure electrical safety and expedite restoration, prioritising critical facilities such as hospitals, government offices, and isolated residential areas.
