Deputy Director of VARS Ngo Van Hong said that despite many difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the project has achieved positive results recognised by local and state authorities. Thus, the company set a target to plant at least 100 ha of indigenous forests in Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa districts, Quang Binh province this year.
At the same time, the company plans to continue to expand its operations to other provinces including Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Hoa Binh, to achieve the goal of planting 1,000 ha of native forest trees by 2030.
According to Hong, since the initial launch of the project on March 21, 2021, 80 ha of forest has been planted in the communes of Lam Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Huong Hoa, Kim Hoa, Thanh Thach, Son Hoa, Dong Hoa, and Tien Hoa of Tuyen Hoa district.
The project is implemented by the founders of VARS, operating not for profit which mobilises social resources to plant and restore natural forests with indigenous tree varieties.
Accordingly, the people and localities benefiting from the project will be supported with the cost of seedlings, caring and protection of the forest until the third year.
In addition to afforestation, local people can also plant short-term trees and medicinal plants in addition to conducting agro-forestry models under the forest canopy to ensure their immediate and long-term livelihoods.
The implementation of the project is in response to the programme of planting one billion trees launched by the Prime Minister.
