Heartfelt acts of kindness to support flood victims
Upon hearing of severe flooding in several central provinces, Dao Kim Cuong from Dong Hy Commune in Thai Nguyen Province rallied his friends and drove through the night, transporting three motorboats to assist residents in Hue City.
Upon arrival, the group operated in isolated areas such as Huong Phong, Tay Ba Market, and Phu Hau Wholesale Market, delivering essential supplies and helping evacuate nearly 20 people from deeply submerged zones.
“Just over half a month ago, when Thai Nguyen faced historic floods, people from the central region and across the country stood with us. Now that Hue is underwater, we cannot simply stand by,” Cuong shared.
Despite also being affected by flooding, many residents of Quang Tri Province have worked tirelessly to support Hue through practical acts of kindness.
Bui Thi Kim Phuong’s family in Nam Dong Ha Ward voluntarily cooked and delivered over 5,000 free rice meals to hospitals, residential areas, and student dormitories in Hue. Phuong expressed hope that this small gesture would help ease the burden on those affected.
Across the country, charity groups and individuals have sent thousands of essential goods and tens of thousands of meals to flood-hit areas in Da Nang. In Phong Nien Ha Village, Tho Phong Commune, Quang Ngai Province, women prepared and dispatched over 400 boxes of dried fish.
“Dried fish is easy to store and makes a convenient meal for those enduring flood conditions,” explained Nguyen Thi Loi, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Tho Phong Commune.
Communities unite in compassionate action
Although flooding continues to worsen across central provinces, local communities remain united and determined to overcome the challenges.
In Da Nang, over 76,000 households have been affected, with 39 wards and communes deeply flooded and isolated. More than 10 people have died or gone missing, and key transport routes along national highways 14B, 14D, 14E, 14H, 14G, 24C, and 40B have been cut off by floodwaters.
In the midst of these hardships, the solidarity and generosity of Da Nang’s residents shine brightly. Organisations and individuals have mobilised extensive relief efforts to support those stranded by the floods.
Le Thi Anh, a resident of Dien Ban Dong Ward, Da Nang City, and her friends prepared over 400 sponge cakes and loaves of bread, 200 boxes of braised pork, and more than 300 bananas to meet urgent food needs amid electricity and water shortages.
Bui Quy Phong, from Hoi An Tay Ward, donated 200 bowls of noodles, 80 chicken rice meals, 50 steamed buns, and six boxes of mineral water to flood-affected areas.
“We’re all struggling with the floods, but we want to offer a small gift as a symbol of solidarity,” Phong said.
Charity organisations have also partnered with Da Nang City’s police youth members to deliver over 7,000 relief packages to villages and wards including Thuong Duc, Vu Gia, Que Loc, Que Phuoc, Duy Xuyen, Dai Loc, Ha Nha, and Dien Ban Dong. Each package contains cakes, milk, water, and other essentials for those in isolated areas.
The acts of kindness not only provide vital assistance but also reinforce the spirit of national unity — forming a steadfast foundation for the country to endure and overcome all challenges.
In Hue City, floods have submerged over 44,500 homes and caused eight deaths and missing persons. Amid these trials, many compassionate individuals have acted swiftly to support those in need.
Nguyen Thi Thuy Hong and a group of women from Truong An, Hue City, delivered nearly 13,000 meals to severely flooded areas and health centres in Thuy Xuan and Huong An Wards.
“These charity meals show the community’s care for us. We hope the floods end soon so life can return to normal,” said Tran Thu Thuy, a recipient from Thuy Xuan Ward.
Local Party committees, authorities, and the Fatherland Front have created favourable conditions for charitable organisations and individuals to join hands in supporting flood-affected communities.
Their efforts not only provide vital assistance but also reinforce the spirit of national unity — forming a steadfast foundation for the country to endure and overcome all challenges.
