The milestone container was loaded onto the Cosco England as part of a direct service connecting Vietnam with the US West Coast. This achievement marks the first time the port has reached this volume, reflecting the growth in both the Tan Cang Sai Gon system and Vietnam’s maritime industry.
In 2024, the port surpassed its business plan 106 days early, with throughput projected to reach 1.09 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 33%. The port handled 918 vessels, including 321 mother ships, connecting Vietnam’s southern economic hubs directly to major export markets including the US and Europe, bypassing transshipment hubs like Singapore and Malaysia.
Lieutenant Colonel Vu Hong Hung, the port’s director, highlighted advancements in digital transformation and technology adoption, including E-Port and modern port management systems, which have helped to enhance efficiency, minimise berth conflicts, and improve cargo handling capacity.
Colonel Bui Van Quy, Deputy General Director of Tan Cang Sai Gon Corporation, emphasised that this milestone marks the port’s 10-year development progress and underscores its vital role in Vietnam’s national port strategy. Moving forward, Tan Cang - Cai Mep Thi Vai aims to enhance sustainable development, optimise logistics services, and solidify its position as a leading regional transshipment hub.
