According to the Viet Nam Fatherland Front of Vinh Long Province, the province has a population of more than 3.7 million, including over 415,900 Khmer people (more than 11%) and around 17,300 ethnic Chinese people. Twelve religions are currently active, with more than one million followers, accounting for 33.4% of the population.

Local authorities have effectively implemented Party and State policies on ethnic affairs, contributing to improved living standards and the preservation of traditional cultural values among minority communities. By the end of 2025, the poverty rate had fallen to 1.16%, with 2.75% classified as near-poor households, while the number of better-off minority households has continued to rise.

Addressing the event, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan reaffirmed that Viet Nam is a unified nation of 54 ethnic groups, forming a rich and distinctive culture. She emphasised that ethnic and religious affairs remain central to national unity and sustainable development.

She commended Vinh Long’s achievements in socio-economic development, social welfare, and maintaining national defence and security, noting in particular the positive progress in ethnic and religious work and growing public trust.

She called on the province to prioritise ethnic affairs as a long-term strategic task, improve policies and livelihoods, develop human resources, and strengthen national solidarity. She also urged efforts to address institutional and infrastructure bottlenecks, promote administrative reform and digital transformation, and prioritise resources for disadvantaged areas.

On the occasion, the Vice President presented funding of 800 million VND (30,400 USD) for the construction of 10 solidarity houses and distributed 174 gifts to outstanding ethnic representatives.
