At the courtesy meeting between the two finance ministers, the two sides discussed orientations for financial and development cooperation in the coming period, particularly measures to implement the action plan to realise the joint statement on upgrading bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.
On the occasion, Minister Ngo Van Tuan cordially invited the Canadian minister of finance to visit Viet Nam and attend the APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting in 2027. He expressed his hope that the two financial agencies would continue to strengthen exchanges and work closely together to translate bilateral economic and financial cooperation orientations into increasingly substantive and effective outcomes.
At a working session with FinDev Canada, Minister Ngo Van Tuan discussed with Nick Anstett, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of the Canadian Government’s DFI, opportunities to support Viet Nam in achieving its development goals through private-sector investment, particularly in climate finance, sustainable infrastructure, energy transition, and climate-resilient agriculture.
Minister Ngo Van Tuan stressed that Viet Nam is entering a new stage of development, with the goals of maintaining high growth, promoting green growth and energy transition, and developing the private sector in a sustainable direction. To achieve these goals, Viet Nam has a great need for long-term capital at reasonable costs, particularly for transport infrastructure, seaports, logistics, energy, and climate-resilient agriculture.
The minister encouraged FinDev Canada to continue expanding its investment activities while strengthening connections with domestic banks, businesses, and financial institutions to identify suitable projects.
For its part, Nick Anstett said that Viet Nam is a market with considerable potential, particularly in climate finance. In 2025, FinDev Canada made two investments in Viet Nam through VPBank and HDBank, each worth 75 million USD, contributing to green finance, agriculture, and the private business sector.
Nick Anstett said Viet Nam remains one of the markets of interest to FinDev in its five-year strategy for the coming period. The institution wishes to expand investment into areas such as power grid modernisation, energy storage, sustainable infrastructure, and agriculture, while encouraging the participation of Canadian businesses, investment funds, and pension funds in projects in Viet Nam.
