Viet Nam Women's Union leaves mark through practical initiatives

During the past term, working alongside ministries, sectors, authorities at all levels, and mass organisations, the women's movement and activities of the Viet Nam Women's Union have made practical contributions to the country's overall achievements, while helping narrow the gender gap.

Reaching grassroots communities and listening to members

Following the principle that “where there are women, there are Union activities,” Women's Union chapters at all levels have renewed membership development efforts, expanded effective models, and improved the quality of grassroots operations.

Looking back on the journey of recent years, the enduring vitality of emulation movements and practical initiatives promoted by Union chapters can be seen in households and neighbourhoods across the country. Under the skilful hands of women, flower-lined roads have flourished, while self-managed green, clean, and beautiful streets and alleyways have contributed to the building of new-style rural areas and civilised urban communities.

Items such as plastic bottles and drink cans that would otherwise be discarded have been collected by women to support initiatives including “Recyclable Waste Collection”, “Green House”, and “Turning Waste into Money”. These programmes have generated meaningful funds to assist disadvantaged people. Though seemingly simple, such efforts reflect the sense of responsibility, compassion, and mutual support that characterise Union officials and members.

Alongside community-oriented charitable activities, one of the most notable innovations during the past term has been support for women's entrepreneurship. An ecosystem supporting women entrepreneurs has gradually taken shape, creating opportunities for women to access resources, enhance their capabilities, develop business ideas, and participate in value chains.

Notably, the Government-approved project “Supporting Women's Entrepreneurship for 2026-2035” is expected to further assist women in progressing from sustainable livelihood development to business ownership.

Support for women’s collective economic development has also reaffirmed the Union's proactive and pioneering role in implementing Party guidelines and State policies, particularly through the project “Supporting Cooperatives Managed by Women and Creating Jobs for Female Workers by 2030.”

The Tan Thuan Dong Rural Market, held every Saturday at Tan Thuan Dong Islet in Cao Lanh Ward, Dong Thap Province, has become a popular eco-tourism and rural cuisine destination attracting visitors and shoppers. The site features thirty-five stalls operated by women traders who are members of the Tan Thuan Dong Agricultural Services Cooperative. The cooperative now has more than 260 members, including over 170 women.

Huynh Thi Cam Giang, a trader at the market, said: “Since joining the cooperative and doing business at the rural market, my family’s income has improved. The market also gives women opportunities to exchange experiences and learn business skills. In particular, the ward Women's Union regularly helps promote our products and facilitates access to training courses, enabling us to become more confident in developing our household economies.”

Thai Ngoc Bao Tram, Chairwoman of the Dong Thap Women's Union, said collective economic models have provided stable employment and higher incomes for thousands of women while helping them gradually participate in production and consumption linkages.

“This work also lays the foundation for Dong Thap Province to achieve its target of establishing new cooperatives with women in management positions by 2030, improving the performance of existing cooperatives, and creating more stable jobs for female workers,” she said.

Spreading spirit of innovation and creativity

In preparation for the 14th National Congress of Vietnamese Women, Women's Union chapters nationwide have launched vibrant and extensive emulation campaigns characterised by creativity and decisive action.

In Da Nang, the municipal Women's Union launched a 51-day intensive campaign titled “51 Days of Action for Creative and Effective Projects and Initiatives”, focusing on new-style rural development and sustainable livelihoods, digital chapters and digital families, and promoting cultural values while building the image of Da Nang women in a new era.

The campaign has spread throughout local chapters and evolved into a broad-based political movement. Women from urban centres to mountainous and border areas, including officials, civil servants, entrepreneurs, workers, farmers, and ethnic minority women, have participated through practical activities demonstrating the role of women in mobilising community strength to create sustainable development values.

After more than one month of implementation, Women's Union chapters across Da Nang had mobilised social resources and carried out hundreds of projects and initiatives worth billions of VND.

Looking ahead, Viet Nam Women's Union President Le Thi Thuy stressed that the organisation would continue to comprehensively renew its content and operational methods, making activities more practical, effective, and closer to members while placing the legitimate rights, interests, and needs of women and children at the centre of its work.

The Union will focus on strengthening entrepreneurial ecosystems, supporting women-led enterprises, cooperatives, and collective economic models, and promoting the application of digital technologies in production, business operations, marketing, and product distribution.

Particular priority will be given to supporting poor women, rural women, and women in mountainous areas and ethnic minority communities in improving digital capabilities, accessing new development opportunities, building sustainable livelihoods, and increasing incomes.

“We hope every woman will not only adapt to digital transformation but also take the initiative in innovation, entrepreneurship, mastering technology, and becoming an important force contributing to the country's goal of rapid and sustainable growth in the new development stage,” the President of the Viet Nam Women's Union said.
