The event was jointly held by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), the Hung Yen provincial People’s Committee and the Australian Embassy in Vietnam.

Under the theme ‘Take Action for Sustainable Rural Environment’, this year’s campaign aims to stress the role of Vietnamese rural areas in environmental protection for advanced and sustainable production.

Addressing the event, MoNRE Deputy Minister Chu Pham Ngoc Hien called on individuals, organisations and businesses across the country to join hands in protecting the environment in general and the environment in rural areas in particular.

Apart from Hung Yen province, many localities across the country also respond to the campaign with a range of activities.

Initiated in 1993 by Australia, the ‘Clean up the World’ Campaign has been launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) globally in the third week of September each year.

The campaign has become an important annual international environment event which attracts the participation of hundreds of millions of people across over 130 countries. It gathers enterprises, communities, schools, individuals and countries globally to join activities in improving and protecting the environment; collecting, treating and reusing waste; and raising communities’ awareness on environmental protection.

This year’s event takes place from September 14-20.
