The move is designed to implement the National Assembly’s resolution on piloting the auction of automobile plate numbers, which will help people acquire their preferred numbers and increase government revenue.
The 153,102 license plate numbers put up for auction are distributed across cars, coaches, trucks and vans in 63 provinces and centrally-governed cities.
The starting bid price is 40 million VND (nearly 1,700 USD), equivalent to 5% of the price of a popular car in Vietnam.
After being granted an account, bidders will choose the number to be auctioned, pay the procedure fee and deposit an amount to the account of the auctioneer, then they will be given a code to take part in the auction.
Winners of the auction will receive the results via emails and messages sent to their registered phone numbers, while the money collected from the auction will be transferred to the central budget.
The entire auction process will be supervised by officials from the Ministry of Public Security.
