Running from February 1 to March 15 at the Plantation Urban Resort & Spa Phnom Penh, the exhibition, titled “Duong’s Forest – Part 2”, presents more than 40 works, including 15 pieces shown to the public for the first time. All are drawn from Duong’s Forest, a long-term collection that reflects the artist’s distinctive visual language and inner world.
Speaking to a correspondent of Nhan Dan newspaper in Cambodia, Bui Hoang Duong said each painting carries its own story, created with the hope of finding a sense of connection and resonance between the artworks and viewers. Developed and completed over more than two years, the collection is intended as a gentle invitation for audiences to explore their own “inner forest”, a symbolic space of calm and reflection deep within the soul.
Art experts note that Bui Hoang Duong’s works are compelling for their cultural depth and spiritual contemplation. His paintings are seen as thoughtful reflections on society and spirituality, while also offering perspectives on the traditions, customs and cultural identities of Viet Nam’s ethnic minority communities.
The exhibition follows the success of Duong’s Forest – Part 1, held earlier this year at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum. While the first part featured 38 large-scale works inspired by forests and nature, Part 2 in Cambodia places greater emphasis on introspection and quiet contemplation, portraying the forest as both a tangible natural entity and a complex inner landscape.
Bui Hoang Duong has previously held numerous solo exhibitions in Viet Nam and has also showcased his work internationally, including in Germany and China.
