Vietnamese youth development strategy for 2021-2030 period issued

The Prime Minister has issued Decision 1331/QD-TTg, approving the Vietnamese youth development strategy for the 2021-2030 period.

The strategy aims to build a contingent of Vietnamese youths who have a strong sense of patriotism, good health and lifestyle, dynamism, creativity, and science-technology mastery.

The strategy sets out six specific objectives, which include enhancing information dissemination and education on counselling and legal support for young people; educating and improving knowledge and skills and creating conditions for young people to have equal opportunities to study, research and innovate; improving the quality of vocational training and creating sustainable jobs for young people; developing high-quality young human resources; protecting, caring for and improving the health of young people; raising the cultural and spiritual lives of young people; and promoting the role of youth in participating in national socio-economic development and defence.

By 2030, 80% of young people are expected to receive career and job counselling, and 60% of young people will receive vocational training associated with job creation. At least 700,000 young people get jobs each year.

The youth unemployment rate in urban areas is to be below 7% while youth underemployment rate in rural areas is to be less than 6% by 2030.

Every year, over 80% of young people in urban areas; 70% of young people in rural areas; 60% of young people in ethnic minority and mountainous areas and areas with extremely difficult socio-economic conditions are facilitated to participate in cultural, artistic, physical training and sports activities in studying, working and residential places.

By 2030, at least 50% of young people will be proficient in using digital media for communication and business purposes on the digital economy platform.

Organisations and individuals are encouraged to provide psychological counselling services for young people; invest in and build cultural, physical training and sports institutions; and social welfare works for the youth,especially young migrants, young workers in industrial zones, clusters and export processing zones.
